Our Likit Story

What is Likit?

Likits are a British treat brand for horses. They specialize in making a variety of toys designed to be used in the horse's stable and/or field. The toys are designed to be fitted with special licks and treats which have been designed to be eaten over a long period of time. Likit is best known for the Likit Holder, this is the most basic of Likit toys. To use this toy it is hung up in the stable, a large lick is placed between two plastic plates, the idea is to hang the toy away from walls. If the toy can be pushed against the wall it makes getting the treat easier. Some of the toys are more difficult to use so it is vital to pick one suited to your horse. Likit also make a Snack-a-ball, this is a ball which is given to the horse on the floor. This toy can be used both in the stable and out in the field. The ball is filled from one side with small Likit Snacks, feed can also be used such as pony nuts however sticky items are not recommended. Inside the ball is a special plate, this is called the "Snack-o-meter" and is designed to filter small amounts of food through to the side which distributes the food out of a small hole. These toys are designed to be long lasting in order to prevent boredom.

Gigi & Likit

I recently entered Gigi into a competition to be featured in Likit's advertising campaign 2015. We are huge Likit fans, in fact we fall into the superfan category. Gigi owns every single Likit toy on the current market and has tried every single flavour! The toys have been a great help in my life and have made Gigi a happier, healthier horse.

Gigi + Stables = Big No-No . . . Gigi + Stables + Likits = Big Yes-Yes

When I first got Gigi she was very unhappy when stabled, she became highly stressed which led to her barging me out of the way to get out. She would run me over just to get out for a moment. It was upsetting seeing my horse in such distress so I had to do something to help her. I got her a Likit holder to play with in her stable. The holder takes one large lick and hung in the middle of her stable. Gigi loved the lick and would play with it for hours on end, you wouldn't have known she was in her stable, the change was so dramatic! The lick preoccupied her from the fact she was in her stable. Over time Gigi has collected all of the toys available, she now loves her stable and cannot wait to get in to have a look round and see what has changed with her toys.

Perfect for surgery!

Gigi needed an operation when I first got her. She had a very nasty sarcoid growing down into her ear, there was also another one under her belly. The surgery went smoothly, she was admitted in the morning and out by lunch. Unfortunately she had to go on box rest for a while to let her body heal. Her likits helped her hugely during the recovery as they prevented her from box walking and escaping! She was a lot happier when there was a toy to play with. After the initial box rest phase Gigi was allowed out in the field...but there was a catch...she was not allowed to lay down or roll! The first thing a pony who has been stuck in a box for weeks wants to do when they hit grass is have a nice big, refreshing roll! Thankfully I had bought Gigi a Snack-a-ball, this is definitely Gigi's favourite toy from the range. The ball kept her occupied when she was out, this made the aftercare so much easier! I must admit there were a few occasions where i had to leg it across the yard, up the field, screaming at the top of my lungs as she was halfway down to roll. I later found that this was only because her ball was empty!!

More Box Rest

In September 2013, Me and Gigi were involved in a road traffic collision, this meant she had to go on box rest yet again. Luckily by this time, Gigi loved going in the stable, she was settled and loved her ever growing collection of toys. During this box rest period, Gigi played with her Likits all day long! I'm thrilled that they have had such a positive impact on my pony, they have made her happy which makes me happy. They have also given me peace of mind as i now know that Gigi is happy to go in her bed.

New Yard = More Stables!

Following the closure of our old yard, we moved to a new place at a working farm. I love the new yard but with a new place, came one major change. At night during winter all horses must be stabled, thankfully this wasn't a problem for us any more, thanks to Likit.
"OMG I NEED MORE LIKITS"

#SecretWeaponLikit

Secret Weapon Likit is our hashtag! We use Likit products when out competing. I am a firm believer in using positive reinforcement with Gigi, luckily for me she is very food orientated. When she does well I give her some of a Likit treat bar or a handful of Likit snacks. They really help when we need that extra boost and have helped with Gigi's transformation from a untrustworthy, green pony who was afraid of poles and jumping to the fabulous pony today. She is so honest and tries her heart out. We have gone from not being able to jump to clearing 1m20 (4ft) tracks in training and clearing 1m (3ft3) tracks out competing. With #SecretWeaponLikit we win!

Carr & Day & Martin: Cornucrescine Ointment For Hair Growth Part One

Overview I'm back with another Carr & Day & Martin review, this has to be my favourite brand for equestrian care products. They make a huge range of products from things you can use on a day-to-day basis to more professional products designed for the show ring. The product featured in this review is their Cornucrescine Ointment. This product is designed to promote healthy hoof growth by being massaged into the coronet band with your fingers or a toothbrush. It is vital to rub the product in properly as the ointment contains keratin producing cells which need to be stimulated. On the tub it also says the product can be used for helping hair re-growth on rubbed patches or scars. I thought as there are already some reviews on its use for hooves I would put it through its paces for the growth of Gigi's mane. Application To apply this product I rubbed a small amount on my first three finger tips, I then pressed them onto my clean fingertips on the other...
