Carr & Day & Martin: Cornucrescine Ointment For Hair Growth Part One

Overview

I'm back with another Carr & Day & Martin review, this has to be my favourite brand for equestrian care products. They make a huge range of products from things you can use on a day-to-day basis to more professional products designed for the show ring. The product featured in this review is their Cornucrescine Ointment. This product is designed to promote healthy hoof growth by being massaged into the coronet band with your fingers or a toothbrush. It is vital to rub the product in properly as the ointment contains keratin producing cells which need to be stimulated. On the tub it also says the product can be used for helping hair re-growth on rubbed patches or scars. I thought as there are already some reviews on its use for hooves I would put it through its paces for the growth of Gigi's mane.

Application

To apply this product I rubbed a small amount on my first three finger tips, I then pressed them onto my clean fingertips on the other hand. Gently I dabbed each finger along the base of Gigi's mane one hand for one side and the other for the other side. If I felt I needed more I repeated these steps until I felt there was enough. I then massaged the product gently into her roots, Gigi has quite fine hair so I ensured I was nice and gentle to avoid damaging it and causes breakage. I repeated this process once a day for 6 weeks.

What about a supplement?

I added biotin to Gigi's feed to help strengthen her hair as it grows. I began using both products on the same day to give Gigi the best possible chance. The patch of mane I want to grow has not grown for the past 3 years, before I got Gigi someone tried to pull her hair (very badly), it's also an area which suffers from rug rubs constantly during winter. I've tried so many products in the past so I was a bit skeptical as I read the tin on this one.

Before

These photos were taken before I had applied any treatment, it is important to get a control photo as I need to be able to compare the end result with what I started with. You can clearly see the rubbed, short patch sticking up.

Verdict

So far I think the product has done an amazing job. I must admit when I first started I was a bit worried about the colour of the product as Gigi has quite light hair however I don't think the product has affected the colour of her hair at all. Her hair is growing really fast and as you can see from the photos I have been able to tame it from the spiky do Gigi was sporting. After just 3 weeks I can just about get her rubbed patch into her plait for riding (running plait as her hair is super long). The application is nice and easy, as you don't need much product, also because the product is an ointment it is a bit like vaseline. I found this worked so well as I have used oil based products in the past, these have rubbed off onto my reins when riding, causing my reins to get slippy. I did not have this problem with Carr & Day & Martins Cornucrescine Ointment.

I Love Love Love This Product, It Is A Complete Lifesaver
