Carr & Day & Martin: Belvoir Tack Sprays

Overview

I have used both the Step-1 Tack Cleaning spray and the Step-2 Tack Conditioner. My favourite of the two sprays is the step 2, this is because I clean my tack after every ride, therefore my tack does not get too dirty. I use hot water and a sponge to clean off the leather work and the bit, to ensure my tack does not become stiff or cracked I spray on the Step-2 Tack Conditioner and rub it in with another, clean sponge. I then buff my tack using a cloth. I first bought this product many years ago and have used it ever since. When I first bought Carr & Day & Martin's tack sprays, the products only came in pump spray bottles, however the company has since re-branded some of the old favourites into new Equimist 360 bottles.

Equimist 360

I absolutely love, love, love the new bottles!!! They make using the products so easy, distribute an even amount of product over a large surface area and use less product, meaning it lasts so much longer! These bottles are also a lot quieter when compared to traditional pump spray bottles, this makes this new type of bottle suitable for use with horses who may dislike the spray noise. With the new bottle the trigger is pulled once and the product will disperse a continuous mist of the product. Each burst of mist provides the recommended amount of product, for example one trigger pull of mane and tail should disperse enough product for the average tail.

Step-1 Tack Cleaner

This product is definitely one to keep in your tack locker! It quickly and easily cuts through grease and grime to leave tack looking clean and refreshed. I mostly use this product on my bits of tack that I may have forgotten about and let go mouldy! Oops! After using the spray my tack has looked clean and loved. It can still be difficult to clean some areas with thick grease however to effectively clean these problem areas I have found leaving the spray on the leather for a few minutes causes the grease to break down in order to be wiped off easily. I have used this product in both the traditional pump spray and the new Equimist bottles. Personally I find that there is a lot of wastage with the Equimist bottle when compared to the old bottle, therefore I prefer the old bottle for both the Step-1 and Step-2 products.  I prefer the Equimist bottle for sprays designed to go on the horse such as coat shine.

Step-2 Tack Conditioner

After cleaning leather work, the conditioner spray should be used, this product is a replacement for tack soap. It's basically a liquid version of the glycerine saddle soap. This product is super easy to use, provides a quick and easy alternative that works just as well as the original soap. My tack always comes back supple and shiny after using this product. Another bonus is a small amount goes a long way. Again I prefer the old bottle as I find the new one wastes a fair bit of product, especially when cleaning the bridle. Another downside to the Equimist spray is that it gets all over the bit if you aren't doing a strip clean. I find the original pump spray can be applied precisely to the area you desire. I have had some problems with the new Equimist bottle these have been listed in the next section.

Problems

  1.  I found that the nozzle clogged between uses, ultimately resulting in the product becoming difficult to use.
  2. I ended up with the liquid leaking out of the neck of the bottle due to the clogged nozzle.
  3. The nozzle was difficult to clean then the mist section fell out, this meant the product came out in a rather large, messy squirt.
I have never had this problem with the old pump spray bottle in the past and am glad Carr & Day & Martin have brought back the old bottle so people can chose what they want to use. Personally I will be sticking to the old style pump however it is up to you what you want to try. I definitely think the benefits outweigh the problems I have experienced and I will continue to use both products.

Carr & Day & Martin Customer Service

Before writing this blog I provided Carr & Day & Martin with a review of the product on their Facebook page. The company messaged me back regarding the product within the hour, this shocked me as I wasn't expecting to get a reply. The company called me the next day to find out what was wrong with my product and get some details such as the date it expires and batch number. They then asked for me to send the product back, to do this they arranged for a courier to pick up the product and asked me to pack it with the address attached. They also said that a replacement bottle would be sent out to me and allowed me to chose whether I wanted another Equimist bottle or the traditional pump bottle. I am so chuffed with the level of customer service Carr & Day & Martin have provided, I am also amazed as the company are actively listening to customer feedback to ensure their products are as good as possible. I really hope they find a way to prevent the problems I have experienced and I am glad the company hasn't ditched the old style bottle, allowing customers to pick the product that is best for them.

Thank You Carr & Day & Martin!

Carr & Day & Martin: Cornucrescine Ointment For Hair Growth Part One

Overview I'm back with another Carr & Day & Martin review, this has to be my favourite brand for equestrian care products. They make a huge range of products from things you can use on a day-to-day basis to more professional products designed for the show ring. The product featured in this review is their Cornucrescine Ointment. This product is designed to promote healthy hoof growth by being massaged into the coronet band with your fingers or a toothbrush. It is vital to rub the product in properly as the ointment contains keratin producing cells which need to be stimulated. On the tub it also says the product can be used for helping hair re-growth on rubbed patches or scars. I thought as there are already some reviews on its use for hooves I would put it through its paces for the growth of Gigi's mane. Application To apply this product I rubbed a small amount on my first three finger tips, I then pressed them onto my clean fingertips on the other...
